AUDITIONS

Parkway Playhouse is a community theatre PLUS. We welcome semi-professional/professional actors of all ages. Also, we encourage the talents of those who use theatre as an outlet for creative energies.

Parkway Playhouse holds auditions for Mainstage seasons mid-February of each year on a first-come, first-served basis. Currently they are held at the Mountain Heritage Center (113 Green Mountain Drive, across from Parkway Playhouse theatre building). Please check back early 2018 for the new production lineup, dates and times.

Actors who define themselves as professional or semi-professional are expected to have considerable stage experience and/or training. Actors in this category may include theater undergraduate and graduate students, actors with theater degrees, and actors who have appeared on stage in the region (or elsewhere) in leading or character roles over a number of years.

PROFESSIONAL AND SEMI-PROFESSIONAL ACTORS:

An actor in this category is expected to present a professional audition—a prepared monologue (not necessarily from the show being cast), 16 bars of sheet music for an accompanist for a musical audition (musical pieces from the show we are casting are acceptable), and an 8x10 photo with attached resume. Actors not prepared in this way may audition as volunteers.

Compensation: Parkway Playhouse is unable to compensate professional and semi-professional actors at a level which truly recognizes the value of their talent, training, or time. The level of compensation generally ranges from $20-$50 per performance, depending on the size of the role, and the actors experience. This is negotiated within a budget. This limited compensation is offered primarily to help define the role as “professional” on a resume, and to acknowledge the value of the actor’s training and experience.

Gas Stipend: Professional or Semi-Professional actors in a cast traveling from over 30 miles (one way) to Parkway Playhouse may apply for a gas stipend of up to $200 to help defray some of the cost of commuting to the theater. These stipends are discretionary.

Actor’s Equity Association Members:
On occasion, Parkway Playhouse employs actors who are members of Actors Equity Association under a Special Appearance contract.

VOLUNTEER ACTORS:

Actors who define themselves as volunteer actors are offering to donate their time on stage as volunteers. They may be cast in any role including leading parts. Actors in this category may or may not have experience and/or training. Experienced actors may simply want to donate their time and talent. We applaud their willingness and dedication. When auditioning, volunteer actors will be asked to cold read from the script. They are not expected to have photos or resumes, but should bring sheet music or recorded accompaniment for a musical audition.

DIRECTORS, DESIGNERS & CREATION PRODUCTION TEAM:

This is such an important part of the Parkway experience. For consideration, please send resume, cover letter and references, along with relevant reviews and work samples to:
