Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical is showing here at Parkway Playhouse June 20-July 6, 2025. We reached out to actor Felicia Swanson, who is portraying the acrobat and Mum 2, about her experience working on this production.
What’s your favorite part of this show and why?
I love the Revolting Children Song! The kids do a great job, and the harmonies are awesome! I also love the first song, Miracle. The Wormwoods are HILARIOUS, and it shows such a stark contrast between most (adoring) parents and the terrible ones Matilda has.
What’s your favorite book and why?
Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. I could read it over and over. I love it because it’s a beautiful illustration of how we can run from God and blatantly choose a life that is far from Him, but He never gives up on us! He will keep chasing us into the darkness to show his never ending Love for his children.
How excited are you to be working with this incredible cast?
It’s seriously a DREAM come true!! The cast has been amazing since DAY ONE, and its such an honor to share the stage with such talented actors and actresses!
What have you loved about working on this production?
Personally, I loved getting to do this show with my 10 year old daughter, Hiero! I have always loved Musical Theater and seeing her love it just as much as I do, putting her whole heart into her performance has been so much fun! I’m definitely like all the annoying “Mums” in the song “Miracle” who simply thinks the world of her kids!
How did you get into theatre?
I started doing theater at church when I was about 5! Our church always did full blown musicals for Christmas! My first non-church play was in 5th grade at school and I loved doing theater through high school, college, and in our local community theater.
What’s your favorite thing to do in the area?
My favorite thing to do in the are is go on “waterfall hikes” with my 4 children and husband! Some favorites are crab tree falls, Toms Creek Falls, and Roaring Fork!
What have you loved so far about working with Parkway Playhouse?
Parkway Playhouse is full of professional people who know how to put on incredible shows! The communication here is so great! I never have to question where or when I am needed because they clearly communicate with every participant daily! There hasn’t seemed to be any “drama” or “politics” when it comes to casting and participation. As a “newbie” I have felt so welcomed and cared for!
