Arsenic and Old Lace is showing here at Parkway Playhouse October 10-19, 2025! We reached out to Jason A Phillips, who is playing Dr. Einstein in this classic spooky comedy, to find out more about him and his experience working on this production.
What part of this show is your favorite and why?
I really enjoy the murderously competitive spirit between Jonathan and his “dear” Aunts, Abby and Martha.
What about this show do you think will stick with audiences?
I think it will be the madcap comedy of it all.

What have you loved so far about working with Parkway Playhouse?
The people who work at Parkway in all capacities are really just so great to work with, friendly and kind, that I keep coming back.
How did you get into theatre?
I started in high school as a way to help get over my shyness. It definitely helped, and I just fell in love with the feeling you get from inhabiting all of the amazing characters that are out there to play.
What’s your favorite thing to do in the area?
I love a drive through the mountains near Burnsville. It’s absolutely one of the most beautiful places for a drive in WNC.

Tell us about yourself.
I’ve been working in theatre as an actor, director, writer, improv’er, and storyteller for over 30 years. I’ve worked locally with Parkway Playhouse as well as Asheville Community Theatre, Adesto, Nemesis, The Magnetic Theatre, and Montford Park Players. I’ve worked in Chicago with Lifeline Theatre and Theatre Hikes. I studied theatre at Southwestern University just outside of Austin, TX. Some of my favorite roles include Charlie in FISH, Man 1 in Working: The Musical, and Other Jason in The Complete Works of Shakespeare Abridged. I directed the world premiere of the rock opera HappyLand at the Magnetic Theatre in 2023. When I’m not doing theatre, I’m spending time with my family, going on dog walks, and reading voraciously.
