Arsenic and Old Lace is showing here at Parkway Playhouse October 10-19, 2025! We reached out to Mike Yow, who is playing Jonathan Brewster in this classic spooky comedy, to find out more about him and his experience working on this production.
What part of this show is your favorite?
The physical bits with the dead bodies and the window seat.
What about this show do you think will stick with audiences?
The fact that it’s a classic black comedy, just right for Halloween/Samhain/Spooky Season, and full of colorful and over-the-top characters!

What have you loved so far about working with Parkway Playhouse?
In addition to the natural beauty of Burnsville and the Blue Ridge Mountains, I like the professional-but-fun approach that Parkway Playhouse takes regarding its production, as well as the kind and creative people who work here.
How did you get into theatre?
Ever since I was a wee child, I would write little plays and perform them for my parents and grandparents, and I was always a very artistic child. My first performance art was playing guitar and lead-singing in a couple of teenage/young adult rock bands, but I quickly realized that I liked acting much better and decided to pursue it professionally about twenty years ago.
What’s your favorite thing to do in the area?
Apart from performing, my top three would be hiking, pickleball, and tabletop gaming.

Tell us about yourself.
Born in Greensboro, NC, my family moved to the North Atlanta area in 1974 due to my father’s job transfer. From there, I lived in and around the Atlanta area for nearly 40 years before moving to Asheville in 2014 with my lovely wife, Karen (also an actor). We’ve two crazy-cool cats named Khaleesi and Nymeria (for all you Game of Thrones nerds out there ;)), and, in addition to the occasional professional theatre or film gig, I also work part-time as a tour guide and game designer, and am a 4.5-rated pickleball player.
