Little Women is showing June 7-16, 2024 here at Parkway Playhouse! This adaptation by Kate Hamill is based on the classic novel by Louisa May Alcott. We recently sat down with cast member, Reed Atherton, who is portraying Laurie to ask him about his experience working on this production!

What’s your favorite part of this show and why?

I love this adaptation of Little Women in particular. It invites a lot of conversation about women and gender. I also think that it is super unique to center the character of Beth as a way to talk about telling your own story and holding true to yourself.

What about this show do you think will stick with audiences?

I think this will bring audiences back to a time when they were young, and thought life was going to be all princess and princes.

How excited are you to be working with this incredible cast?

We have truly bonded, it’s so amazing to watch these people act, they are incredible.

What have you loved about working on this production?

The collaboration that the director, Erika, has brought into the room is infectious. She invites us to take the time to question how we are representing the story in the most effective way. It feels like we are building a world together.

How did you get into theatre?

When I was six, my parents needed something to do with me and reluctantly stuck me in a theater class. I had the time of my life, and played Gus in Cinderella.

What’s your favorite thing to do in the area?

Going on a drive and seeing all the wonderful nature and the mountains. Makes me appreciate the beauty in the world more.

What have you loved so far about working with Parkway Playhouse?

The community, there is so much love, support and play from everyone involved. Everyone’s ideas and work matters.
