Wendy Calkins
2017 Secretary
Committee – Building and Grounds

Wendy Calkins moved to Yancey County with her husband and three children from metro Atlanta, GA in 2006. She has been involved with several organizations in the community since then. She was a Girl Scout Troop Leader for a few years and a volunteer with Yancey County 4-H. She worked with kids sewing and making quilts at Bee Log Elementary for five years and has sung with the Toe River Community Chorus as often as possible. Wendy is also a member of the handbell choir at Higgins Memorial UMC. For the past five years, Wendy has worked at the Buck House Inn on Bald Mountain Creek. She is also a member of the Mountain Piecemakers Quilt Guild. Their son graduated from Mayland Community College with his Associate’s Degree, their oldest daughter is attending UNC Asheville, and their youngest daughter is a student at Mountain Heritage High School. She and her husband John are glad to call Yancey County home.

While attending her first show at Parkway Playhouse, Wendy was happily surprised to find such a fantastic community theater here in Burnsville. Her oldest daughter became involved as a performer starting in 2012 and was in several mainstage shows, and many of the Parkway Playhouse Junior shows up through 2020. Wendy has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2017 and is the current Secretary.
