Committee – Building and Grounds

Larry is a former Naval Officer who spent twenty plus years in the reserves and on active duty before retiring and working for twenty plus years for various government contractors in Washington, DC. While in the Navy, he spent time in the Far East, Norfolk, VA, and Washington DC. He and his wife first visited Asheville in the 1990s, looking for a place to retire. They had learned the Asheville area is centrally located from places like Atlanta, Charlotte, and Charleston with good medical facilities – an important consideration when one is thinking about retiring. When they first visited Mountain Air, they had no intention to buy. They fell in love with the small-town atmosphere and soon found themselves with an architect (Armin Wessel) and a ten-year retirement plan. In July 2010, they made the move to Burnsville/Mountain Air. That fall, he was nominated to the Parkway Playhouse Board. During his first time on the Board, he served as Vice President and then President. After a short time away, he was nominated to return. While serving on the Board, he has been on the Executive, Finance, Fund Raising, and Building and Grounds Committee, where he serves today.

In addition to serving on Parkway Playhouse’s Board, he spent time on Davis and Elkins College Alumni Council – for a period as the President. He enjoys playing tennis and pickleball, which he just took up in the last year. He and his wife enjoy traveling, including ocean cruising. Since retiring, they have been on safari in South Africa, New Zealand, India, and Australia, to name a few places.
