Myrna Stephens, PhD., earned her doctorate in Audiology and Speech Sciences at Michigan State University. Upon retirement in 2001, she and her husband moved to Burnsville from Iowa City, Iowa. She has served on the boards such as Yancey Hospice, Habitat, and TRAC. She is one of the founders of the Carolina Mountains Literary Festival, which occurs annually on the square in Downtown Burnsville and brings authors and readers from across the country. Myrna is an active member of the Mountain Piecemakers Quilt Guild as well, which creates quilts for Veterans through their Heroes Project and quilts for critically ill children through their Linus Project. She has visited 27 countries, including time spent teaching in China and Gaza City. Her other interests include sewing, quilting, knitting, and golf.
