The Development Director is responsible for the development and implementation of a strategic fundraising and marketing plan focused on cultivating a diverse audience, increasing Parkway Playhouse (PPH) attendance, and building membership through a variety of media–both traditional and digital. Additionally, the Development Director oversees the collection and analysis of market data to influence the strategic and annual operating plans of PPH to ensure the financial success of the theatre. Works to support the mission, vision, and goals of Parkway Playhouse.


Develops a brand image of the Parkway Playhouse consistent with its commitment to growth, inclusivity, collaboration and connectivity
Manages the promotion and marketing of the theatre in collaboration with the Managing Director
Creates and prepares applications, including support materials, for grants and funding opportunities identified by the Board, and staff
Implements and guides fundraising strategy and initiatives
Creates editorial content and functionality for the PPH website and social media accounts (for both PPH and Junior program) as needed
Works with the Board of Directors in strategic and long-range planning and organizational development
Supervises and assists in the creation and execution of marketing materials and campaigns
Ensures that local and regional media have appropriate and timely information about theatre performances and activities
Supervises and assists in the work of any and all outside consultants in creating descriptions of plays and other background materials for use in fundraising, marketing and educational materials (programs notes, newsletters, and etc.)
Creates and implements the annual marketing plan including social media, website design including implementation and traffic monitoring, on line ticket sales, email correspondence, newsletters, direct mail, and other campaigns to build ticket sales, membership, donor and audience base
Establishes methodologies by which to assess the success of marketing efforts across all media; conduct regular audits of marketing efforts to determine their effectiveness and to ensure that marketing expenditures are best aligned with PPH priorities
Presents public programs (Curtain Speeches, theatre tours, radio/television interviews, visiting with community) as requested
Works with various vendors for printing

Must be able to perform each essential duty listed above satisfactorily
Bachelor’s degree in arts or relevant field; Master’s degree preferred
At least 5 years experience and thorough knowledge of current marketing and communications practice
Demonstrated ability to strategize, set and meet goals, and work effectively with others as a collegial and credible resource
Experience positioning an organization both internally and externally and raising its profile, through various media, with its current constituents as well as with new ones
Capable of developing proactive themes and strategies for long term implementation and working in a fast-paced environment, maintaining flexibility and a sense of urgency
Creative and entrepreneurial with the ability to articulate themes and strategies to senior management and to manage a collaborative team, enabling staff to perform at the highest level to achieve the best possible outcomes
Solutions-oriented with the ability to successfully balance both staff and management needs and expectations
Possess a perceptive presentation style and be able to build and sustain internal and external relationships crucial to Parkway Playhouse
Superior organizational and communication skills
Ability to follow-through with commitments and obtain results that meet or exceed expectations
Ability to successfully interface with diverse groups of constituents, building rapport and trust
Highly professional, independent worker
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
