In this show the eccentric Verdeen Cousins of Sweetgum, Texas are saddled with planning a family reunion despite being neck-deep in personal disasters. In the middle of arrests, psychological evaluations and an oncoming tornado, the family’s horrid matriarch has challenged Cousin Gaynelle to a high-stakes baking contest.

Roommates Andy and Norman publish a protest magazine out of their apartment. It’s 1967 and a young sculptor and his fiancé have borrowed fancy furniture from a neighbor without his permission in the hopes of impressing a millionaire art collector. When a blackout plunges the party into darkness everyone must navigate the room, surprise visitors, unexpected mistresses, and angry fathers as they collide into stolen furniture, trap doors, and each other.

The Appalachian Playwriting Festival is a celebration of Appalachian Culture. It is a preservation of the stories, people, and traditions that make our community so wonderful. This festival is an opportunity to give back by offering a microphone to those voices telling the stories of our home and heart. Our 2023 festival will include 3 plays, presented at staged readings. One script from this festival will be chosen to be produced on our stage in 2024.

You’ll be doing flips for the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy, and leader of a band of young newsies in Manhattan. When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsies’ expense, Jack rallies young workers from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what’s right!

IN PERSON: The box office window will open beginning in late spring.
HOW TO REDEEM A FLEX PASS OR SEASON TICKET
(Once you’ve already purchased them)
- Click on the individual Mainstage performance under Mainstage.
- After you click on the play you want to see, click the “Buy Tickets Online” button.
- Choose the day you’d like to see the play.
- Choose your seats and click OK.
- Choose “Redeem Benefits” on the bottom right-hand side of the screen. You don’t need to fill in all the information (It has already been entered when you purchased your Season Tickets or Flex Passes).
- Then you: a) enter your Member ID (which you will receive) or b) the email address associated with your already purchased Flex Pass or Season Ticket.
- It will call up your information and ask you if you want to redeem them for that particular show. Click the button at the bottom of the screen to confirm!
- Voila! You may pick up your tickets at the box office.
NOTES:
- Ticket prices include tax and $2 per ticket service fee.
- Ticket purchases are non-refundable.
- Flex passes may not be used in association with any other discount.
- Flex Passes are good for 2023 Parkway Playhouse Mainstage performances.
