Our Town is showing here at Parkway Playhouse May 23-June 1, 2025! We reached out to actor Alesa Bryant, who is portraying the Stage Manager, about her experience working on this production.
What’s your favorite part of this show and why?
All of it! Specifically, though, I love the visual simplicity. At a time when many material things are literally gone, we are forced to find comfort in each other, in relationships, in all the things that can’t be washed away. Wilder has stripped away all the trappings that distract us and has given us a simple bare stage where hearts, love, happiness, fear, loss, joy, and grief lie open. In fact, they are the real “scenery.”
How excited are you to be working with this incredible cast?
This cast reminds me of a hub during Helene. Our director, Erica Tyner, encourages collaboration; freedom to offer ideas, suggestions, feelings, experiences that bond us, and like the hubs, help us find something beautiful.
What have you loved about working on this production?
The vision. Our director, Erica Tyner, offered a vision for this particular production that I’m sure no other director in the entire world would have considered. The entire cast is committed to that vision, and as sure as I’m alive, the audience will be committed to that vision. You’ll just have to come and see what I mean.
