Little Women is showing June 7-16, 2024 here at Parkway Playhouse! This adaptation by Kate Hamill is based on the classic novel by Louisa May Alcott. We recently sat down with cast member, Beverly Cranford, who is portraying Amy to ask her about her experience working on this production!

What’s your favorite part of this show and why?

My favorite part of this show is the people working on it, the cast and our director are such lovely people and all absolutely perfect for this beautiful script.

What about this show do you think will stick with audiences?

I think that the characters will stick with audiences the most. The characters of this story are already beloved by many people and with this script they are so perfectly imperfect with so much depth and dimension. I think they’re being brought to life beautifully and I know that they’re already sticking with me.

How excited are you to be working with this incredible cast?

I am so excited! This is my first show at Parkway and I didn’t know what to expect but I feel so genuinely blessed to be working with such incredible people.

What have you loved about working on this production?

Little Women is such an important story to me and I have loved it since I was 12 years old, I have always resonated so much with the character Amy and so when I was offered the role I was over the moon. Kate Hamill is such a fantastic writer, I’m a big fan of all her work and I love what she has done for this story and for these characters, I don’t think we could be doing a better adaptation. Erika is a fantastic director who is doing the script so much justice and is honestly helping me realize so much about my own abilities as an actor. There is nothing that I don’t love about working on this production, I couldn’t have asked for anything better.

How did you get into theatre?

I first got into theatre by doing junior musicals at my elementary school, I rediscovered my love for acting once I started high school and I haven’t stopped since.

What’s your favorite thing to do in the area?

Probably a popular answer but I love going to Appalachian Java. I’m not from Burnsville and the first couple times I came here I got food and coffee there and just admired the beautiful area.

What have you loved so far about working with Parkway Playhouse?

I’m sure I’ve said it enough already but: The people. I genuinely feel so welcomed here and I am having such a great time, I feel so lucky to be a part of this season.
