Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical is showing here at Parkway Playhouse June 20-July 6, 2025. We reached out to actor Emma Grace Ramb, who is portraying Miss Honey, about her experience working on this production.

What’s your favorite part of this show and why?

Matilda holds a special place in my heart. This is the third production of this show I’ve been a part of, and each time, I get to discover new layers within the story. This time, I’ve had the joy of exploring the character of Miss Honey, and I love watching her journey of finding her confidence through the support she finds in Matilda. It’s a story that resonates deeply with me, as I’ve felt that same kind of support from my cast, professors, family, and friends as I continue my artistic journey.

What’s your favorite book and why?

Recently, one of my favorite books has been Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. It’s such a captivating story that beautifully highlights the theme of resilience, similar to that in Matilda.

How excited are you to be working with this incredible cast?

I am so excited to be part of my first production at Parkway Playhouse! It’s been such a fun experience getting to meet so many new people throughout this process. I’m so grateful to be working with such a talented and welcoming cast!

What have you loved about working on this production?

I absolutely love how diverse and welcoming this cast is! Everyone truly embodies the joy of the arts, and it’s been such a privilege to be part of it. I’ve especially loved working alongside the talented children’s ensemble, they inspire me every day with their enthusiasm, creativity, and support. I’ve learned so much from them, and they’ve been some of my biggest cheerleaders!

How did you get into theatre?

I grew up surrounded by music, my mom is an opera singer and vocal coach, so music was always a big part of my life. I found my passion for singing and dancing early on, though I also tried other activities like golf and competitive swimming along the way. But I kept coming back to the stage! My first official musical was Beauty and the Beast in sixth grade, where I had the opportunity to play Belle, and I’ve been hooked ever since!

What’s your favorite thing to do in the area?

This is my first time in Burnsville, so I have really enjoyed getting to explore the charming area in my time off! I love to get an iced vanilla latte from Appalachian Java and take a quick walk before rehearsals!

What have you loved so far about working with Parkway Playhouse?

The people have been absolutely amazing! From submitting an online audition from my college dorm room to showing up at the first day of rehearsal never having met anyone in person, both the cast and crew were so welcoming and intentional! They made sure I felt included and supported as I navigated a new city, which allowed me to relax and enjoy the process. It’s been such a wonderful reminder of how incredible the artistic community is, and I know I’ve made meaningful connections that will support me in the future!
