Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical is showing here at Parkway Playhouse June 20-July 6, 2025. We reached out to actor James Roeder, who is portraying the Doctor, Escapologist, and Henchman, about his experience working on this production.
What’s your favorite part of this show and why?
The incredibly talented cast of all ages!
What’s your favorite book and why?
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy – it seems like such a silly book at first, but there are some deep and poignant truths in there.
How excited are you to be working with this incredible cast?
On a scale of 1-10, I’d say 13.
What have you loved about working on this production?
Playing off of the other cast members – everyone has been giving so much energy, and it’s contagious.
How did you get into theatre?
When I was a freshman in high school, a friend of mine invited me to audition for a play with Flint Youth Theatre. I got bit by the theatre bug and took every opportunity I could to be onstage for the next few years. While I haven’t been in a production for over a decade, I am very excited to be back on stage, joining this wonderful cast and crew.
What’s your favorite thing to do in the area?
Hike the many trails with my kids and dogs.
What have you loved so far about working with Parkway Playhouse?
I love the focus on education: recognizing that we all have something to share and something to learn. I have already grown so much through rehearsing for this production, and I can’t wait to learn more by participating in future shows.
