Our Town is showing here at Parkway Playhouse May 23-June 1, 2025! We reached out to actor Jenny Martin, who is portraying Mrs. Gibbs, about her experience working on this production.
What’s your favorite part of this show and why?
I absolutely love the cast for this show. It includes some of my favorite people from all different times in my life–my former theater teacher, my best friend from high school, coworkers, parents of my students, former and current students, my own son, and of course, all the brand new folks I’m LOVING getting to know.
What about this show do you think will stick with audiences?
Erika and Carew have come up with an innovative set design that incorporates pallets used to transport supplies to our community in the aftermath of Helene. It is extremely powerful to see those on stage. I hope that audience members, as they remember the tragedy of that time, appreciate the creativity of utilizing those in a creative way–making beauty out of ashes.
How excited are you to be working with this incredible cast?
Extremely!
How did you get into theatre?
In 4th grade, my teacher, Judy Byrd, did an annual “Civil War Play,” and I played a Southern Belle. I still remember standing in her classroom, in that poofy dress, delivering a monologue. Since that moment, I’ve been hooked.
