Our Town is showing here at Parkway Playhouse May 23-June 1, 2025! We reached out to actor Roberta Whiteside, who is portraying Celia Stimson, about her experience working on this production.
What’s your favorite part of this show and why?
I love the fact that the show is memorable. I saw a television production of this show when I was in middle school. The feeling I got when I witnessed the scene after the funeral has stayed with me all these years.
What about this show do you think will stick with audiences?
I think “being in the moment” will stay with our audience. In the play, we see how we are often so busy with work and chores that we seldom slow down and be present, to see and listen to people. Life is more than what we eat, what we wear, or where we live.
How excited are you to be working with this incredible cast?
I am so excited to see each of the actors grow their characters. The talent in this production is amazing. I must admit, I have missed a cue or two watching the phenomenal performances of this cast.
What have you loved about working on this production?
I have loved seeing how the directors’ vision for the show is coming to fruition and how she has helped me and the other actors develop our characters, so as to create “Our Town.”
How did you get into theatre?
I made my theatrical debut as an Angel in our Church Christmas play. There was no drama in my middle school or high school, so my sister and I performed in our community theater at Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute.
What’s your favorite thing to do in the area?
I love to go walking around our lovely town and window shop. We have a wonderful downtown. On Saturdays, I enjoy visiting our farmers’ market and seeing what’s happening on the square. There is always something interesting going on.
What have you loved so far about working with Parkway Playhouse?
I love the fact that everyone at Parkway Playhouse, the actors, directors, and box office, are kind. In a world where there is so much division and exclusion, it feels good to be a part of something bigger than myself and be welcomed.
