Little Women is showing June 7-16, 2024 here at Parkway Playhouse! This adaptation by Kate Hamill is based on the classic novel by Louisa May Alcott. We recently sat down with cast member, Beverly Cranford, who is portraying Amy to ask her about her experience working on this production!
What’s your favorite part of this show and why?
My favorite part of this show has to be the cast. Not only is everyone immensely talented, experienced, and enthusiastic, the entire cast is filled with actors who love to discuss the craft of acting and collaborating. I crave experiences in which I learn from others and this is no exception. I have also appreciated watching our understudies and apprentices learn from and work with professional actors in the business. Every rehearsal is like a collaborative master class in theater.
What about this show do you think will stick with audiences?
Little Women is such a classic and this adaptation keeps the classic, while posing relevant questions about how we see ourselves and our roles in society.
How excited are you to be working with this incredible cast?
As I said before, this incredible cast’s love for the art of the theater is inspiring in every rehearsal.
What have you loved about working on this production?
I love that we have found a way to extend Parkway’s mission of being a teaching theater. It has been fabulous to see the apprentices and actors from the Junior program, understudy the roles of the sisters. They have added so much to this production.
How did you get into theatre?
I started doing theater at the age of 10, when my parents signed me up for a drama camp. What started as a summer experience, turned into a life’s work. I can’t imagine who I would have become without the experiences I have had in theater and performance.
What have you loved so far about working with Parkway Playhouse?
The production staff at Parkway Playhouse is top notch. From the production manager, to the technical director and the production manager, everyone you encounter at Parkway is helpful, kind, and enthusiastic about bringing theater to this community.
