Little Women is showing June 7-16, 2024 here at Parkway Playhouse! This adaptation by Kate Hamill is based on the classic novel by Louisa May Alcott. We recently sat down with cast member, Alan Steele, who is portraying Mr. Lawrence to ask him about his experience working on this production!

What’s your favorite part of this show and why?

I love the chemistry between the March sisters! The show was brilliantly cast.

What about this show do you think will stick with audiences?

Audiences will leave the theater pondering the roles we are forced into and how we can all find strength in family cohesion.

How excited are you to be working with this incredible cast?

This is my first time on stage in 11 years. I am thrilled.

What have you loved about working on this production?

I only have few lines, but my character is pivotal to the play’s progression and a lot of character development. It has been exciting to explore how to make my time on stage meaningful to the other players.

How did you get into theatre?

I have always been a nut, but it wasn’t until I followed a friend to auditions as a freshman in high school that I found my lifelong home. Theatre folk are my favorite people in the world.

What’s your favorite thing to do in the area?

I am brand new to the area, but I am loving North Carolina! I keep asking locals, “Do you ever get over how breathtaking the mountains are?”

What have you loved so far about working with Parkway Playhouse?

I love how welcoming Parkway has been. The cast is spectacular and I can’t wait until we are able to share this beautiful show with an audience.

About Alan

From interactive improv to Shakespeare and everything in between, some of his favorite roles were Trinculo in Shakespeare’s The Tempest, Ben in Seascapes with Sharks and Dancer by Don Nigro, and King Richard the Lionheart in the world premiere of Jihad by Ann Chamberlin. Alan attended the National Shakespeare Conservatory in NYC. He has been away from the theatre for many a year (11?), dedicating his creativity to being a stay-at-home dad, his favorite of all roles.
